History: Aidan Waite

Personality: One of the most important things to always remember when dealing with Aidan Waite is that no one hates Aidan more than Aidan. He has perfected the art of self loathing for hundreds of years. At one point he even used ghosts of two women he had a hand in killing to remind him of what he had done. He would sit and let them tear him apart word by word because in his heart of hearts Aidan knew he deserved it.

Aidan's a killer. A brutal and violent killer. He has an incredibly calm and relaxed demeanor about him, but if you become a threat that will change. He's incredibly short with his vampire brethren. Aidan knows more than anyone how horrible they can be to humans. He's incredibly untrusting of them due to past conflicts and what he's done himself. Once again that self loathing comes in when dealing with other people as well. Because Aidan hates himself he tends to hate the majority of the vampires he has dealings with. There have been exceptions to this rule, but that's only ever extended to those he's made, his wife and those he's loved. Otherwise Aidan really wants nothing to do with any of them.

He's incredibly charming. It's incredibly irritating at times, but Aidan has a way with words and women. He can make you believe things. When he meets Kat he turns on the charm big time and talks about things he knows she'll enjoy. Aidan is not afraid to use his vast knowledge of the world to his advantage while flirting with a woman. Rebecca tells Aidan that she didn't believe he was the kind of guy she wanted to date, but eventually his smooth talking softened her. He convinces her to come home with her, but ultimately that's where she meets her demise. Aidan eats her. Brutally in the middle of them having sex.

Just another charming part of what Aidan is. It's hard for Aidan to disconnect feeding live from sex. When he's in the middle of sex all that carefully crafted control Aidan has worked years to acquire goes down the tubes. It's one of the reasons he hesitates to sleep with Kat. Just one of them though. He has other concerns. Aidan tries to avoid sex because of what it does to him on a vampire level.

Aidan lives his life walking a tight rope. One wrong move could send Aidan hurdling to the ground. Aidan makes terrible choices because of this at times. That control he's worked so hard to grab slips from his hands from time to time. It usually means he needs to get Josh and Sally to pull him back to the land of the living. When Aidan spends too much time in his own head and doesn't ask for help is when things get bad for him. Right now Aidan is trying to walk the tight rope with his eyes blind folded and he's fallen in a big way. Aidan drained and killed a girl during sex. Unfortunately the bliss that comes with a feed also comes with a craving for more. One that Aidan isn't sure he can fight off.

One of the largest chunks of Aidan's personality was his brutality when he was feeding live. Aidan suffered a terrible loss that shaped his life. Even after being turned into a vampire Aidan returned to his family and chose to live a quiet life with his wife and son. It was when an angry mob threw his wife in the river that he lost control. Aidan saw humanity for what it really was. Petty and horrible. He saw them as monsters. Scared monsters. He lashed out in a big way. He killed all of them and abandoned his son in the woods. Aidan's personality shifted from caring husband and father to a blood thirsty killer. He earned a brutal reputation among his peers. One that Sally saw first hand when she went back in time. Aidan had no remorse. He enjoyed killing. He enjoyed being under the blanket bliss of a blood binge. He didn't want his humanity back. He explains to Suzanna when she's trying to detox him that he was never happier than like that. He tells her that when he shocked himself with a defib unit and his heart started beating for a second that it frightened him. He had to tear a human apart limb from limb just to get back underneath that blanket. There are times when Aidan would rather be under that blanket than holding onto a ledge with his fingertips.

For all of Aidan's horrible faults he does have some good inside of him. It comes out in the little things he does for Sally and Josh. When Josh was getting married it was Aidan who got himself ordained and decorated the living room for the wedding. It was Aidan who volunteered to go into Donna's world with Sally to help save her. Aidan let Sally feed off him to keep her from rotting. Aidan will go to hell and back for them and Nora as well. He told Liam when he was torturing him that it was him that killed his daughter. He let Liam inject him with a vampire virus that he thought would kill him just to protect her. Aidan loves his family. That's what the three of them are now. His family.

One important aspect to remember is that Aidan is coming in at a very difficult canon point for him. He fed live and drained a person. He was then knocked out by his vampire wife and forcibly detoxed to help get him straight. All this did was upset Aidan at first. Eventually he broke and started getting back to himself. Suzanna has just told Aidan that she murdered their son on that fateful day. The day that she was thrown in the river and then turned into a vampire (by Aidan's own maker). She drained their son.

Abilities, Strengths and Weaknesses:

Abilities and Strengths

Enhanced Strength: Vampires are noticeably much physically stronger than average adult human beings and stronger then werewolf in human form. While vampires get stronger with age, younger vampires can have sufficient strength to withstand their elders such as the case in which Aidan, after drinking live human blood, fought and defeated his sire, Bishop, a vampire significantly older than himself. Mother, the oldest known vampire, was able to decapitate two younger vampires with a swipe of her hand.

Accelerated Speed: Vampires are much faster than humans and werewolf in human form possibly in wolf form and can move at amazing speeds, to the point where they appear to be blurs. Mother appeared nearly invisible when she knocked the two orphans off of Aidan.

Healing Factor: Vampires can take a lot of punishment and will heal quite quickly, but not instantly as shown when Aidan still had a round mark after being impaled. The healing speed and effectiveness is improved if the vampire feeds on living blood from a human. Henry, for example, needed to feed from two humans to regrow his skin.

Super Senses: Vampires possess heightened senses much greater then humans and non-purebred werewolves.

Mind Compulsion: Vampires have the ability to influence a human's mind is called "compelling", and while it is an ability that comes naturally with vampirism, it is very difficult to use. Compulsion does not seem to work on werewolves, ghosts and other vampires. (It's important to note that Aidan isn't very good at this bit. It tends to fall apart on him. He usually relies on his charm to get humans to do things, but he does call on other vampires if he has to. If the situation is important enough.)

Super Stamina: Vampires have far more endurance and stamina than humans. They can run, fight and exert themselves much more and for longer than any human, though they can still get fatigued and even knocked out.

Immortality: Vampires will never age another day after they are turned and will live forever unless they are killed in specific ways.

Fangs: Vampires can extend a pair of fangs from their mouths that allow them to feed on blood.

Clairvoyance: As supernatural beings, vampires can see and hear ghosts. They can also sense werewolves, who give off a distinct, dog-like stench that can only be detected by vampires and other werewolves. Mother was able to sense the three "Orphans" that were hiding, while Aidan couldn't.

Weaknesses

Wooden Stakes: Heart pierced by wooden stake can kill a vampire.
Decapitation: Cutting a vampire's head off can kill them.

Sunlight: While sunlight is not lethal to them like in traditional folklore, vampires strongly dislike direct sunlight, which seems to cause them pain and discomfort. Aidan states that vampires long ago were indeed incapable of going out in the sun, but they gradually adapted and are now merely 'photosensitive'.

Invitation Deprivation: Houses owned by humans or werewolves cannot be entered by vampires without the owner's permission, unless the vampire itself lives there. Attempting to enter uninvited for more than a few seconds will cause the vampire to essentially burn and melt away. Interestingly, if the ownership of the house officially changes while a vampire is still inside it, the invitation is nullified, and the vampire will perish unless he or she escapes immediately. In one episode, a house full of vampires is massacred simply by deeding the building to a human lawyer.

Garlic: While not lethal, garlic forces vampires to reveal their true nature, turning their eyes black and causing their fangs to show, it also seems to cause some small amount of discomfort as Aidan was seen coughing after eating some.

Werewolf Blood: If a vampire drinks werewolf blood, they began to bleed heavily from their eyes and nose and experience violent seizures. Moreover, a vampire who has drunk werewolf blood will be unable to create other vampires, instead creating defective, vampire-like mutants. The blood only remain in their system for a few weeks.

Unidentified Flu Strain: If a vampire feeds from a human that had the mysterious new flu strain, then they will typically die within days.

Juniper: When vampires consume the plant juniper, they will begin to become weaken and paralyzed.

Blood Withdrawal: When vampires don't feed after awhile, they begin to become sick and rapid.

Blood Intoxication: When vampires feed on too much blood they will begin to become intoxicated.

Dessication: When vampires go prolonged periods of time without feeding, their blood and skin begin to dry up and they begin to look like a mummy.

Werewolf Bite/Scratch: A bite or scratch is capable of killing a vampire.
